The short answer

When pain overwhelms you — physical or emotional — God draws near. He does not stand at a distance from your suffering. He is present in it, offering comfort that reaches deeper than the hurt.

What Scripture Says

"The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit."

Psalm 34:18

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,"

2 Corinthians 1:3

"who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God."

2 Corinthians 1:4

"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me."

Psalm 23:4

"Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

Matthew 11:28

Going Deeper

Pain can make you feel utterly alone, but scripture promises the opposite. God is nearest to you when you are most broken. He is the Father of compassion, and the comfort He offers is not a platitude but a presence — the kind that walks with you through the valley and invites you to rest.
