The short answer

Forgiving someone who hurt you is one of the hardest things Scripture asks, but it is also one of the most freeing. God does not ask you to pretend the pain is not real — He asks you to release it into His hands.

What Scripture Says

"Bear with one another and forgive any complaint you may have against someone else. Forgive as the Lord forgave you."

Colossians 3:13

"For if you forgive men their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you."

Matthew 6:14

"Be kind and tenderhearted to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you."

Ephesians 4:32

"And when you stand to pray, if you hold anything against another, forgive it, so that your Father in heaven will also forgive your trespasses."

Mark 11:25

"Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven."

Luke 6:37

Going Deeper

Forgiveness is not about excusing what happened or saying it did not matter. It is about refusing to let someone else's wrong define the rest of your story. God, who forgave you at great cost, walks with you through the slow and sometimes painful process of releasing the grip that hurt has on your heart.
