The short answer

Anger itself is not automatically a sin. The Bible makes a clear distinction between feeling anger and sinning in your anger — even Jesus felt anger. What matters is whether you let it control you.

What Scripture Says

"'Be angry, yet do not sin.' Do not let the sun set upon your anger."

Ephesians 4:26

"Jesus looked around at them with anger, deeply grieved at the hardness of their hearts. Then He said to the man, 'Stretch out your hand.' He stretched it out, and his hand was restored."

Mark 3:5

"My beloved brothers, let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger."

James 1:19

"For man's anger does not bring about the righteousness of God."

James 1:20

"A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man holds it in check."

Proverbs 29:11

Going Deeper

Scripture draws a careful line: you can be angry without sinning, but anger that is nursed, unchecked, or used to harm others crosses that line. Even Jesus experienced righteous anger at injustice. The question is not whether you feel it — it is whether you allow anger to become the master of your actions and your heart.
