The short answer

No, anxiety is not a sin. The Bible acknowledges anxiety as a natural human experience. Even Jesus experienced deep anguish in the Garden of Gethsemane. God never condemns you for feeling anxious — He invites you to bring those feelings to Him.

What Scripture Says

"When anxiety overwhelms me, Your consolation delights my soul."

Psalm 94:19

"And in His anguish, He prayed more earnestly, and His sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground."

Luke 22:44

"Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you."

1 Peter 5:7

"The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit."

Psalm 34:18

Going Deeper

When Philippians says 'be anxious for nothing,' it is an invitation, not a condemnation. The psalmist openly tells God about being overwhelmed by anxiety, and Jesus Himself sweat drops of blood from anguish. Anxiety is part of living in a broken world. What God offers is not guilt for feeling it, but a place to bring it — His open, caring hands.
