The short answer

Psalm 56:3 is one of the most honest prayers in Scripture: 'When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.' Trusting God does not mean the fear disappears — it means you choose to lean into Him even while it's there.

What Scripture Says

"When I am afraid, I put my trust in You."

Psalm 56:3

"In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?"

Psalm 56:4

"The LORD is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life — of whom shall I be afraid?"

Psalm 27:1

"The LORD Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."

Deuteronomy 31:8

Going Deeper

David does not say 'I am never afraid.' He says 'when I am afraid' — acknowledging that fear is real and recurring. But in that fear, he makes a choice: trust.
