The short answer

When you feel scared, pray the simplest prayer there is: 'God, I'm afraid. Be with me.' David prayed this way throughout the Psalms, and God always answered with His presence.

What Scripture Says

"When I am afraid, I put my trust in You."

Psalm 56:3

"I sought the LORD, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears."

Psalm 34:4

"He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge. His faithfulness is your shield and rampart."

Psalm 91:4

"For I am the LORD your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, 'Do not fear; I will help you.'"

Isaiah 41:13

Going Deeper

You don't need a polished prayer when you're scared. David's prayers are often raw cries: 'I'm afraid, help me.' And God responded every single time. The image in Psalm 91 is tender — God covering you with His feathers like a bird sheltering its young. When fear strikes, turn toward God rather than away from Him. Even the words 'help me' are enough.
