The short answer

Jesus says, 'I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me will live, even though he dies.' He conquered death through His own death and resurrection, turning humanity's greatest fear into a doorway to eternal life.

"'And everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?'"

"In My Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?"

"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am."

Going Deeper

Jesus does not avoid the topic of death — He confronts it head-on and defeats it. He tells Martha, 'I am the resurrection' — not 'I will perform a resurrection someday,' but 'I am it.' In Jesus, death loses its finality. He has gone ahead to prepare a place and promises to come back for those who are His. Death is real, but it is not the last word.
