What Happens When We Die According to the Bible?
The Bible teaches that for those who trust in Christ, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Death is not the end — it is a doorway into God's eternal presence where there is no more pain or tears.
What Scripture Says
"We are confident, then, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord."
2 Corinthians 5:8"And He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away."
Revelation 21:4"In My Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?"
John 14:2"For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain."
Philippians 1:21Going Deeper
Scripture presents death for the believer not as a tragic ending but as a homecoming. Paul speaks of it as gain, as going home to the Lord. Jesus said He was going to prepare a place — a room in His Father's house, specifically for you. And the final vision in Revelation promises a world where death itself is defeated and every tear is wiped away forever.
