The short answer

Jesus repeatedly tells His followers 'Do not be afraid.' In John 14:27 He says, 'Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.' His words are always paired with His presence — He never asks you to be unafraid alone.

What Scripture Says

"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid."

John 14:27

"Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom."

Luke 12:32

"Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue leader, 'Do not be afraid; just believe.'"

Mark 5:36

"But Jesus immediately said to them, 'Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.'"

Matthew 14:27

Going Deeper

Every time Jesus says 'do not be afraid,' He says it to people who are afraid — disciples in a storm, a father whose daughter is dying, a small and vulnerable group of followers. His response to their fear is always the same: It is I. I am here. The antidote to fear in Jesus' teaching is never willpower; it is His presence.
