The short answer

Forgiveness is at the very center of what Jesus taught and lived. He calls His followers to forgive as radically as they have been forgiven — without limit and from the heart.

What Scripture Says

"Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, 'Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother who sins against me? Up to seven times?'"

Matthew 18:21

"Jesus answered, 'I tell you, not seven times, but seventy times seven.'"

Matthew 18:22

"Then Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.'"

Luke 23:34

"For if you forgive men their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you."

Matthew 6:14

"And when you stand to pray, if you hold anything against another, forgive it, so that your Father in heaven will also forgive your trespasses."

Mark 11:25

Going Deeper

Jesus did not just teach forgiveness in theory — He demonstrated it from the cross, forgiving the very people who were killing Him. His call to forgive seventy times seven is not about counting; it is about cultivating a heart so shaped by grace that forgiveness becomes your instinct rather than your exception.
